Checking The Technique: A Panel Discussion with Author Brian Coleman, DJ Platurn & More
Amoeba Berkeley - July 20th @ 5:30pm
Amoeba Music and Platurn Productions present Checking The Technique, a panel discussion which will celebrate old-school hip-hop, especially focusing on rap’s “Golden Age” (mid-‘80s to mid-‘90s), with an emphasis on Bay Area and California artists. Special guests Brian Coleman (author of Check the Technique Vols 1 & 2), DJ Platurn (45 Sessions/Oakland Faders), Adisa Banjoko (Hip Hop Chess Federation & author or Bobby, Bruce & The Bronx), Eric Arnold (Oakculture), Domino (Hieroglyphics), and Prozack Turner (Foreign Legion/The Legionnaire Saloon) will join us on the Amoeba Berkeley stage for this very special free, all-ages event.
In addition to playing music from the Amoeba vinyl stacks and talking about the importance of panelists’ favorite hip-hop records, this group of DJs, artists, and historians will discuss why it’s important to document artists of the past, while also pushing their own artistry ahead and supporting modern artists.
Brian Coleman and Adisa Banjoko will have copies of their most recent books available for sale and will be happy to sign them.
