Already 2017 is shaping up to be the year of Prince: kickstarted at Sunday night's Grammys with standout sets by The Time and Bruno Mars during the night's memorable Prince tribute. Then next week, Feb 23rd, Warner Bros is reissuing a bunch of Prince albums on vinyl including Lovesexy, Diamonds & PearlsGraffiti Bridge OST, ComeBatman OST, and  The Love Symbol.  Warner Bros Records (WBR) also recently announced that finally Prince's Warner catalog would be "available to stream across all digital services" following years of not streaming the copyright-guarded artist's music. Warner also announced an upcoming very special Purple Rain reissue. A truly Deluxe edition that tops all  Prince reissues.  As well as including all remastered versions of songs on the original 1984 album, this package will additionally feature two albums of previously unreleased Prince material plus concert films. The deluxe package scheduled for an early summer release. "Prince recordings from the Paisley Park Vault and two complete concert films arriving June 9th,"  promised Warner, stressing their sensitivity to the late musician's artistic standards. "When we make any of Prince's music available to fans - from the hits to unreleased gems - we are committed to upholding Prince's high creative standards and we know fans will be thrilled when they hear these albums and see these films," said Warner Chairman & CEO Cameron Strang. Heavy Hitter Midnites: PURPLE RAIN

Purple Rain // Friday, September 21, 2012 at Cinefamily
Before scientists confirmed the formal discovery of the Higgs boson, Prince had already located the key to limitless sexual frenzy in this Oscar-winning crowning achievement of ‘80s culture. In his semi-autobiographical film debut, Prince plays The Kid, a Minneapolis club musician as alienated by his tumultuous home life as he is talented on stage. Sharp-dressed & quick-tongued scene-stealer Morris Day (from the band The Time) is his rival, both in music and in affection for sultry singer Apollonia. As the competition heats up, shirts are removed, hips gyrate, guitars ejaculate and Prince and the Revolution scorch the soundtrack with hits “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and of course, “Purple Rain.” But will the power of music be able to transcend & transform The Kid’s life as well as our own? Find out for yourself when a rare 35mm print of this energizing musical phenomenon lights up the Cinefamily screen!

Peaches Christ's Fashion Tips for Special July 1st Screening of Purple Rain @ The Castro with Apollonia In The House

"Take Me With U" Prince & Apollonia from Purple Rain1984

Anyone who lives in San Francisco or who follows the Amoeblog already knows that Peaches Christ's Midnight Mass movie series is a thing of legendary status and that, along with everything else that the drag icon and her Backlash Production Company produces, rightfully commands a large & loyal following in San Francisco as well as the other cities and countries the traveling show has visited. But the upcoming July 1st special screening of Purple Rain at San Francisco's historic Castro Theatre may top all other Peaches Christ events to date.

In addition to the 35mm film presentation of Purple Rain (already a proven Midnight Mass favorite) and the guaranteed entertaining Purple Pre-Show, the event will also feature none other than Apollolina herself who starred alongside Prince in the 1984 film. Apollonia, the actress, singer, and former model who was born Patricia Kotero, will be Peaches' live guest for both a Q&A session and a post show meet-and-greet. Yesterday I caught up with Peaches Christ to ask about what fashion tips she might have for attendees of this special event and also what she thinks will be some of the favorite movie scenes with the audience at the Castro on July 1st? "All of the musical numbers tend to be the best scenes at our screening, especially the finale when the big concert finale breaks into 'I Would Die 4 U.' The audience goes nuts!" said Peaches Christ - the alter ego of accomplished drag performer, emcee, filmmaker, and actor Joshua Grannell who began the ever popular Midnight Mass series at the Bridge Theater in SF back in the late nineties.
