Mon Laferte - What's In My Bag? Amoeba Music

Before her recent in-store performance at Amoeba Hollywood, we had a chance to sit down with Chilean singer-songwriter and actress Mon Laferte and learn what she had been listening to, such as Brazilian legend Astrud Gilberto. "I'm in love with her voice," she told us, describing it as "super elegant." She went on to talk about the appeal of Brazilian music, saying, "It's delicate, it's elegant, it has an interesting harmony, and (is) at times happy, but not the type of happiness that's coarse, rough. It puts you in a very lovely state." Mon Laferte had equally eloquent and thoughtful things to say about all her picks, making for a wonderful What's In My Bag?

Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte, aka Mon Laferte, ranks as Chile's artist with the most nominations in one year for the Latin Grammys: five nominations in 2017. That year, her Mon Laferte - Normasong "Amárrame" from the album La Trenza took home the Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Song. Known for fusing rock, electronic, blues, pop and bolero styles, Laferte began her musical career at age nine, when she won a singing contest. She released her first studio album, La Chica de Rojo, in 2003. Nine years later, she released a followup, Desechable, and was invited to serve as a judge on the Chilean version of The X Factor in 2012.

Best of 2017 Hip Hop

Black Moon - Enta da Stage

Black Moon - Enta da Stage: The Remixes

Dropping several weeks after Fat Beats reissued Black Moon’s 1993 hip-hop classic Enta Da Stage on vinyl (also as a 2LP set), was the Enta Da Stage: The Remixes LP set by the influential Brooklyn crew. Both vinyl releases are essential for any hip-hop library. The Remixes LP features remixes and alternate versions previously released in non-album format (incl. M.W. Smooth's mix of "Who Got Da Props?" and DJ Evil Dee's remix of "How Many MC's") as well as previously unheard material such as Buckshot's new vocal version of "Shit Iz Real.” - Billyjam, Hollywood
