As outlined in the top ten list below and heard in the video clips by scrolling even further down, there's a real nice diverse offering of new hip-hop releases to arrive into Amoeba Music this past new release date: Friday May 19th. Incorporating various formats (LP, CD, cassette) in both brand new and new reissue edition releases there's lots to chose from with Topping the anticipated 3LP, 20th Anniversary Edition version of Dr Octagon's Dr Octagonecologyst 3LP 20th Anniversary Set.topping the top ten. Featuring veteran NYC emcee Kool Keith's Dr. Octagon alias (the alter ego he had killed off years ago) with project producer/mastermind Dan the Automator plus San Francisco turntablist legend DJ Qbert (also DJ Shadow in there) this new package celebrates the 20th anniversary of the hugely popular, critically acclaimed mid-nineties release. Technically 20+ years since its 1996 release, the album featuring Dan's deep quirky production and Kool Keith's absurdist alter-ego / high-concept character, upon its mid nineties release  Dr. Octagonecologyst stood apart from other hip-hop at the time and managed to additionally appeal to non rap music fans.

Thanks to Luis, the hip-hop buyer at Amoeba Music San Francisco, for this week's top five, which includes in the number one slot the brand new triple CD release from Kool Keith, Lost Masters Collection. The record dropped on the Ultramagnetic hip-hop living legend's own Dmaft Records this past Tuesday. This 3 disc set (50 songs in total) is a must get for fans of the veteran, prolific, freaky-minded emcee. Also just released this past Tuesday is the full-length from popular Dallas native Dorrough, who previously scored anti no more heroesa hit with the song "Do Tha Muscle" as a member of the group Prime Time Click. Simply titled Dorrough Music on E1 Entertainment, the new album features the hot summer 2009 radio/club song and riding anthem "Ice Cream Paint Job" (see video below).
