Jake Fogelnest What's In My Bag? Amoeba Music

"This was a long time coming," proclaims writer/comedian/producer Jake Fogelnest about Criterion's newly restored Blu-ray of Multiple Maniacs. "John Waters is my favorite, he is my hero," Fogelnest says of the film's director, a pioneer of cult, transgressive movie-making. Pre-dating his breakthrough feature, Pink Flamingos, Multiple Maniacs features many of Waters' usual actors, including Divine, who would become the persona most associated with Waters' films. "It is still psychotic and shocking, probably even more in this new cleaned up print by Criterion," says an exuberant Fogelnest, who had plenty of witty insight into all of the goodies in his bag.

Jake Fogelnest has written for several TV shows, including Wet Hot American Summer, Difficult People, Girlboss, and Billy on the Street. He has contributed to VH1's Best Week Ever and written jokes for Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" segments. Fogelnest began his comedy career early, attracting attention for his cult public-access cable show Squirt TV, that he created when he was just fourteen years old. The program was eventually picked up by MTV, counting guest appearances by Wu-Tang Clan, Liz Phair, Cibo Matto with Sean Lennon, Adam Sandler, The Kids in the Hall, Kevin Smith, and Beck.

New "What's In My Bag?" Episode with Matt Pinfield

Matt Pinfield What's In My Bag? Amoeba Music

"I have 20,000 records on a freighter waiting to come to my place in San Francisco," says TV host and video DJ Matt Pinfield. "I'm replacing stuff or getting stuff that I can listen to that I've just been dying to hear." Pinfield recently took a trip to Amoeba Hollywood, his "favorite record store in the country," and let us take a peek into his bag, which included records both classic and new.

Matt Pinfield All These Things That I've DoneAs the host of 120 Minutes, MTV/VH1 personality Matt Pinfield became a familiar face for music fans. During the mid-'90s he hosted a number of MTV shows, later parlaying his musical knowledge into a position as Vice President of A & R and Artist Development for Columbia Records in 2001. An experienced radio host, he began his career as a college radio DJ and Music Director at Rutgers University's WRSU-FM. He can now be heard in the mornings at San Francisco's KFOG, on weekends through Cumulus Media's Flashback show, and on SiriusXM's Lithium channel on weekday mornings.

Pinfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. He has played himself in an episode of Portlandia and made cameo appearances on albums by several artists. In 2016 he published a memoir, All These Things That I've Done: My Insane, Improbable Rock Life.

There certainly was a strong David Bowie presence in Matt Pinfield's picks, as he not only bought the Five Years 1969-1973 Bowie box set, but also the Bowie-produced All The Young Dudes by Mott the Hoople, and the latest movie soundtrack by legendary singer/songwriter Scott Walker, who Pinfield first learned about from Bowie covering Scott Walker. Pinfield spoke about the importance of the legendary musician in his life, saying Bowie was his "gateway to looking further and seeing what else was out there. Which is really the m.o. and the template for what we were doing with 120."
