Melvins What's In My Bag? episode at Amoeba Hollywood

We are incredibly stoked to share our 500th "What's In My Bag?" episode featuring the legendary Melvins!! Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, and Steven McDonald recently visited us at Amoeba Hollywood to debate which is the best Rolling Stones record, talk about being influenced by The Runaways, and pick up albums by new artists The Lemon Twigs and Savoy Motel.

The Melvins formed in Montesano, WA in 1983, taking their name from a much-maligned supervisor at the Thriftway store where vocalist and guitarist Buzz Osborne worked as a clerk. As Melvins, he and drummer Dale Crover would go on to become underground legends, influencing the development of grunge, doom, and sludge. The band's 1986 debut EP, Six Songs (aka Melvins) was released as a vinyl 7". Their first studio full-length LP, Gluey Porch Treatments, was released in 1987 via Alchemy Records. With deep ties to the nascent grunge scene, Crover played drums on a Nirvana demo that would later become part of their Bleach LP.

Three Essential Melvins LPs To Be Reissued June 24

Melvins Vinyl Reissues

When the Melvins burst onto the Washington music scene in the early '80s, they were making music heavier, slower, and sludgier than anyone else had before. The impact made by key members Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover cannot be understated; Melvins' uncompromising sound influenced many of the now legendary Seattle grunge bands (Nirvana were huge fans and supporters) and much of the existing canon of stoner rock/sludge/doom bands, including Boris, Sunn O))), and Earth. In fact, after a string of indie releases, it's in large part due to interest in the Seattle scene that Melvins was picked up by major label Atlantic Records in 1993 -- a partnership that would lead to the release of three of the band's classic albums, Houdini, Stag and Stoner Witch. Oddly, considering their importance, all three LPs have been out of print on vinyl for over two decades.

But no more! Jack White's Third Man Records is reissuing each album on 180-gram vinyl with gatefold sleeves. Pre-orders are available now from us (and they'll ship FREE to the U.S.), with the LPs set for a June 24 release. Here's what to look out for on each album.

Off!

Hardcore punk supergroup OFF! are known for their raucous, rowdy live shows, and they definitely brought their A-game when they swung by Amoeba Hollywood a couple months ago. Frontman Keith Morris (Circle Jerks/Black Flag), guitar player Dimitri Coats (Burning Brides), bass player Steven Shane McDonald (Redd Kross) and drummer Mario Rubalcaba (Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes) tore through six short-but-sweet tracks which left the packed room wanting more.

This August, OFF! are gearing up for a US tour to promote their most recent release, Wasted Years. But this time the supergroup is getting even more super, with the addition of legendary Melvins drummer Dale Crover, who's filling in for Rubalcaba. Check out the two part video of OFF!'s performance at Amoeba Hollywood and get a glimpse of the mayhem brewing for the summer tour--just mentally Photoshop in Dale Crover.

Infamous punk rockers Dwarves will join the band for a handful of dates.
