Freaks of The Industry: Bay Area Hip Hop Shot by B+ is the descriptively titled new photo exhibit by photographer Brian Cross (aka B+) at San Francisco’s Family Affair in the Lower Haight. The Bay-centric visual display includes photos of such NorCal hip-hoppers as The Coup and members of the Hieroglyphics and Solesides (later Quannum) crews including DJ Shadow (whose Entroducing...album cover art he's credited for) who was among those at the opening party a few night ago. Billed as “a visual mixtape of various artists repping the Bay outside the mainstream,”  the large scale image display will run through November 17th when B+ will be back in the house.

The Irish born, LA based photographer was also there on opening night last Thursday. Among those in attendance was veteran Bay Area hip-hop photographer Timi D… who praised the exhibit calling it, “a very tight but bold presentation of images that gives a very personable feel to the viewer.” Timi, who took the accompanying photos above and left for the Amoeblog,  added that the exhibit’s, “big prints from film scans offer a classic look and feel.” B+ exhibit at Family Affair at 683 Haight Street thru Nov 17th. 1: GZA/The Genius Liquid Swords: The Singles Collection [Box Set] (7") (Geffen)

A lot of new vinyl this past week including many reissues starting with this 45, 7" four record box set from GZA/The Genius: Liquid Swords: The Singles Collection [Box Set] (7") (Geffen). Note it is just one of numerous Wu-Tang Clan related vinyl releases recently. As seen in the above photo Liquid Swords: The Singles Collection [Box Set] (7") contains in really nice packaging the title track single “Liquid Swords” (with the A and B sides being respectively the LP and instrumental versions) plus three other singles from the famed WU member. The other singles are “I Gotcha' Back” (LP version with instrumental on B-Side) and “Cold World” (LP version and RZA mix). Meanwhile the fourth single, listed as Sides G and H in the 7” series, is “Shadowboxing (LP version)” on Side A and “4th Chamber (LP Version)” on the B-side. Still in stock but box sets like this tend to sell out fast. Buy here: Ships free in USA

Hip-Hop Top Five New Releases [Video Version] Princess Nokia, Young Dolph, Yung Lean, Budamunk, Black Moon

1: Princess Nokia 1992 Deluxe. (also on vinyl 1992 Deluxe LP)  (Rough Trade)

Princess Nokia's 1992 Deluxe. (also on vinyl 1992 Deluxe LP) is out this week thanks to Rough Trade who released the 25 year old rapper's deluxe update on her mixtape entitled "1992" from last year. 1992 being her birth year, Princess Nokia is already known for her collaboration with Wiki and the NY crew Ratking (she appears on the 2014 XL release So It Goes under her older pseudonym Wavy Spice) as well as her feminist collective Smart Girl Club, and in recent weeks for getting into a confrontation on a New York City subway with a racist that involved hot soup: an example of how she always speaks her mind. Born Destiny Nicole Frasqueri, she proudly raps how she's, "Black a-Rican bruja straight out from the Yoruba/ And my people come from Africa diaspora, Cuba/ And you mix that Arawak, that original people/ I’m that Black Native American" on "Brujas" which is one of nine tracks on the new album. As  noted by Amoeba reviewers  1992 Deluxe is packed with "hard and hypnotic" beats, with the emcee's flow being, "smart, sassy, and insightful. She’s tough. She’s street smart. She’s proud of who she is — and she wants you to feel the same way, too. That’s what makes this album so special: lots of bangers, to be sure, but there’s also a lot of heart behind the dance floor fillers. Princess Nokia is one-of-a-kind and our world is better for having her in it." Currently over in Europe, Princess Nokia's next gig is tomorrow (Nov 13) in Berlin. Published a couple of months ago below is the full video for "Flava" that was co-directed by the artist with  Milah Libin. Note that the instrumental music part kicks in at the 3:00 point in the clip.
