Resting your feet up on your ottoman (with rips repaired by duct tape), you strike a match to light your The Tielman Brotherscalabash pipe as you take a pause reading Bernard Heuvelmans' On the Track of Unknown Animals, contemplating if the small humanoid ape-creatures named the Orang Pendek on the island of Sumatra could in fact truly exist? Just then, your cat dips its tail into your tropical concoction you poured in an old Mr. Bali Hai mug. Indonesia seems to be in the why not take it a little further this evening as I offer you some interesting appetizers from the "Emerald of Equator."

The Tielman Brothers are perhaps the most famous Indonesian rock band and are considered the pioneers of rock and roll in the Netherlands. This is due to Indonesia once being a Dutch colony, creating a unique cross-over of Indonesian and Western music called Indo-Rock. If rare international surf music "surfaces your submarine," you may have already heard their hit "Java Guitars" on the amazing bootleg surf album, Guitar Mood, still seen sealed new from time-to-time at Amoeba.

Known for wiggling and writhing on the stage floor while playing their instruments, Dara Puspita was an all-girl super garage band that played from 1965–1974. Listen and chew on this raw delight...

In the early 1980s, Indonesia pumped out a ton of strange martial arts/horror/fantasy films that always involved black magic. The Warrior and Mystics in Bali both came out in 1981, followed by Queen of Black Magic in 1983.

Perhaps you remember eating a Tombstone pizza and watching Lady Terminator on Xmas eve at a friends house long ago? You know...the one about the Queen of the South Sea, an ancient sex goddess, that possesses the body of her enemy's granddaughter to fulfill a 100-year-old curse of death and destruction.

For me, there is nothing more amazing than the cult-classic, The Devil's Sword, which came out in 1984.

Do you like crazy evil wizards?...Um yes.
Evil horny witch?...Sure.
Crazy kung-fu with chopped up body partsThe Devil's Sword flying all over?...Why not?
A flying guillotine?...Sounds great.
A sex-crazed evil crocodile queen?...Well, dip my Bitterballen in some hot mustard!

Why, take a gander at just one minute of this film and then decide to watch the entire film on the big screen with me (it's a no-brainier) at the haunted and historic Balboa Theater in San Francisco on Wednesday, June 19th at 7:30! RSVP on the Facebook HERE. that Claude, the albino alligator from the California Academy of Sciences?!?
