#1  People Under The Stairs  Sincerely, The P (avail on CD, cassette, and 2LP pre-order) (Piecelock 70)

While most hip-hop acts 20 years into their career might have have lost their edge and/or passion for an art form that won them over back in their youth, People Under The Stairs have remained consistently fresh and relevant with each anticipated release by the SoCal act. Further it seemed like PUTS would be recording and performing forever.  Hence when consistently independent duo, comprised of Thes One and Double K, announced that their new 2019 release Sincerely, The P would be their final/farewell album their dedicated fanbase were understandably sad. On a positive note however the new 56 minute album is one of their strongest full-lengths in an illustrious twelve album career spanning two decades. Released physically this past Friday via  Piecelock 70 on both CD and cassette, with colored double vinyl to follow next month (2LP pre-order one per customer) Sincerely, The P continues the pure underground hip-hop vibe that PUTS fans have grown to love since the hip-hop pair first arrived on the LA scene back in the late nineties.

A truly DIY project the self-produced new album doesn’t even feature any production collaborators or guest emcees throughout its fifteen tracks. Known for a career of tireless touring and putting on memorable shows, unfortunately the underground LA duo will not do one final tour in support of Sincerely, The P with their website simply stating that "People Under The Stairs have retired from touring. Thanks to everyone who jammed with us for 20 years."  In fact the very last PUTS show was back in October at London’s Jazz Cafe. And as reported by the LA Times back in February when the album was digitally released, "There will be no farewell tour or official goodbye Los Angeles performance. Don’t hold your breath waiting on any reunion projects."  Note that the vinyl version of their final album will be released on May 3rd as a 2LP set pressed in galaxy swirl colored vinyl but you can pre-order from Amoeba now. Only one per Amoeba customer.
#2  Ceschi  Sad, Fat Luck (Circle Is Square/Fake Four Inc)

Drawing from such diverse musical influences as folk, punk, indie rock, and raw unfiltered hip-hop, that oft used sub-genre terminology “alternative hip-hop” perhaps most accurately applies to unique underground artist Ceschi (pronounced Chess-Key). This fact is further proven by the Connecticut artist’s just released latest album Sad, Fat Luck. The new album is released via Fake Four Inc. which is the record label he co-founded back in the last decade with longtime collaborator, Canadian beat maker Factor Chandelier who also produced this latest project.  Standout cuts on the new 13 track full-length album, whose subject matter ranges from the personal to the political, include the lead single “The Gospel,” “Middle Earth” that features East Coast female emcee talent Sammus  and “Any War” featuring fellow underground emcee Astronautalis. Note that Ceshci's current tour dates will include three California dates next week; Thursday April 18th at Catch One in Los Angeles, Friday April 19th at Bottom of The Hill in San Francisco, and Sunday April 21st at Amoeba Berkeley where he will do a free instore performance and album signing at 4pm.
