Tomorrow night's (Tuesday, October 17th) A Celebration of DJ Stef at the Elbo Room in San Francisco is further proof of just how widely beloved an individual Stephanie Gardner Ornelas (aka DJ Stef) truly was. As previously reported on the Amoeblog there was unprecedented outpouring of grief and shock in response to the DJ/writer/hip-hop ambassador's sudden October 1st death from a heart attack. Tomorrow's Elbo Room party, one of several in honor of DJ Stef this week, is being organized by Peter Agoston of Female Fun.  Agoston  (aka DJ Thanksgiving Brown) is one of the multitude of devoted friends DJ Stef earned over the years via her central role in the Bay Area (and beyond) hip-hop / DJ community. Thanks to Agoston's hard work and his contact with many of the artists that DJ Stef has made a lasting impression on over the years, he's managed to enlist a most impressive list of artists to perform for free for the benefit/tribute event.

As seen in flyer above, this artist line-up (worthy of an all day festival scale venue) includes Del The Funky Homosapien, Peanut Butter Wolf, Foreign Legion, Zion I, Eclipse 427, DJ Platurn, Yoni Wolf, Various Blends, Jel, Controller7, Gary Wilson, Eddie K and Vinnie Esparza.
All proceeds from the ticket sales are, "meant to assist with any existing, extraneous and forthcoming bills/expenses in Stef's life that may unexpectedly occur from a sudden passing of this nature" said Agoston adding how they will also go toward preserving the late DJ/journalist's, "vast archive of one-of-kind music, mixes, memorabilia and the journalistic works created by way of Vinyl Exchange, VeTV etc." Additionally some proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Hospitality House which is the San Francisco homeless outreach program that Stef was a major supporter of since volunteering for the non-profit organization in the past.

As to why the former NorCal resident, who lives in NYC these days,  went to all this trouble in lining up all these artists to perform for free? It was his thank-you to someone whom he had witnessed doing so much for others.
"I decided to this as Stef and I had have been friends since the 90's [and] she always went out of her way to help artists over the years," Agoston said. "I did this as both as way to show her wide influence in the Bay and also as a way to bring together people to celebrate this special human being and her life." Noting that Tuesday's "bill is stacked" with twenty odd acts including "special guests" on the one small club stage, and knowing from experience how daunting the stage management of such a packed schedule can be, Agoston noted how the jam-packed concert will begin extra early at 7pm sharp. "The doors are at 7 and the show will start promptly then too," he said. So probably best to arrive early and get advance tix from Eventbrite where the total cost is $37.50 or $40 at the door of 21+ event. Elbo Room is located at 647 Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission district. More club info here

Note that if tix sell out and/or you cannot make this Elbo Room DJ Stef tribute event, note that there will be others in the week ahead including one happening this Saturday afternoon. Hosted by Toph One, another longtime pal of DJ Stef's, this tribute entitled  DJ Stef: A Vinyl Celebration will take place on Saturday afternoon from 1pm to 4pm, October 21st, at Drakes in Oakland.
