Charity Auction recap Amoeba Hollywood

On Saturday, June 3rd, we held a charity auction at Amoeba Hollywood with a brand new guest auctioneer, the dapper writer and comedian Jake Fogelnest! The auction, benefiting the Sierra Club, couldn't be more timely--with the issue of climate change on all of our minds. We are all hoping to protect our planet for generations to come, and the Sierra Club has been working tirelessly for more than a hundred years to do just that!

Sierra ClubThe Sierra Club was founded by legendary conservationist John Muir 125 years ago in 1892 and it's now the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization -- with more than two million members and supporters. Its successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, they made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy.

Our guest auctioneer knows a thing or two about music and pop culture. Jake started a television show, from his New York City bedroom, when he was 14-years old! Squirt TV made its debut in January of 1994 on Manhattan public access. The show featured Jake spouting off his opinions of music, film and television. Jake wrote, produced, directed and edited the entire series, himself. The one-man show quickly became a cult success in Manhattan. Jake's quirky style, sense of humor and edgy commentary attracted fans and Squirt TV evolved from Public Access to the mass audience of MTV. Jake latest projects include Comedy Central's upcoming series Corporate, Netflix's Girlboss, and Hulu's Difficult People.

Jake definitely brought that edgy (and hilarious) commentary to our auction with witty one-liners that helped nudge people to bid more and more for a worthwhile cause.

Check out some of the highlights from Saturday's auction:

  • David Bowie fan pack - $65
  • Boy band fan pack, including a One Direction guitar pillow - $28
  • Mayer Hawthorne limited edition 7" box set - $37
  • Sports pack, including Dodgers coasters, LA Rams hat, and a limited edition blue Amoeba t-shirt - $23
  • Amoeba in-store VIP pass + Natural History Museum passes - $50
  • Soundgarden promo pack - $12
  • Random merch pack, including socks, underwear & scarves - $33
  • Bob's Burgers pack - $35

With some other trinkets added in---all together customers bid $392 and with our match it means almost $800.00 going to the Sierra Club. Not bad for a half hour's work! Thanks SO much to Jake for making this such a great and entertaining auction!
