Happy 59th Birthday Paul Weller [Video Version: Solo, The Style Council, The Jam]

Born in 1958 on this date, May 25th, UK singer, songwriter, guitarist Paul Weller (aka The Modfather) today celebrates his 59th birthday. Happy birthday Paul and thank-you for providing the world with so much great music from your seminal days with The Jam (with Bruce Foxton & Rick Buckler)  through your years with The Style Council (with Mick Talbot etc.) and all your later solo work up to the present. As a fan of Weller's since 1977 when he arrived with his punk / mod revivalist / power-pop trio The Jam, I have always admired the artist for not just his musical skills, but his passion for all types of music from punk to funk to soul and jazz and house and, more importantly, his commitment to follow his heart and go with his gut. Weller has always been an artist who made the music that he wanted to, not what some record company exec dictated to him. And it is because of this insistence on sticking to his gut and soul, I believe, that Weller has been such a prolific artist. Even excluding the body of work with The Jam and The Style Council, Weller's released an impressive 20 + solo albums (studio, live, and compilations).  So in honor of this occasion, which is part 4 of this week's special Amoeblog Birthday Week series that began on Monday with Morrissey, below are over thirty videos from throughout Weller's long illustrious career. Spanning several decades and in chronological order, most are music videos or concert clips or TV performances (inc. Top Of The Pops) but also included is a cool music related interview from 2013 when Weller visited Amoeba Hollywood and took part in a What's In My Bag? (WIMB) episode. Whenever applicable the name of the album that a song is from is included with a link to the Amoeba.com shop page where you can order the album, most of which are vinyl pressings (Free Shipping anywhere in the USA). Thanks for checking out this birthday blog and be sure to view the others: May 22nd Morrissey, May 23rd Maxwell, Rosemary Clooney, & Robert Moog, May 24th Bob Dylan, and tomorrow May 26th will be Miles Davis.
