With three weeks to go to 2017 Record Store Day (April 22nd) things are heating up in the new releases department including a noteworthy series of seven inch singles via B-Boy Records. That's the legendary label who, back in the 80's, originally released all of the amazing BDP (Boogie Down Productions) joints. Those were 12" singles that are coveted by collectors and hip-hop fans like myself. This new reissue series comes cover sleeves bearing that same distinct record label logo, but only on collectible seven inch 45 series.  This new vinyl  reissues on seven inch include Poetry" + "South Bronx"  and "The Bridge Is Over" + "Remix For P Is Free" There's another three 7" BDP singles available from the Amoeba store found under new releases here.

Initially released 13 years ago Ghetto Philharmonic The Alternate Masters (Chamber Musik) is again available with a new release that arrived in Amoeba yesterday and well worth getting. Also a reissue of sorts is the newly assembled greatest hits package Best of 50 Cent. Includied are his timeless classic/biggest hit "In Da Club" that opens the 18 track CD compilation, along with all the G-Unit star's main tracks you fiend for (and more) such as "21 Questions," "P.I.M.P.," "I Get Money," and "Disco Inferno." The week's official new release is prolific West Oakland rap star J.Stalin's standout album I Don't Sell Dope No Moe  which does not disappoint. 16 tracks, 50 minutes including the "Tupac Intro," "West Oakalnd Marines," "Human Target Practice," and "Yo Mama's House" plus an album title that itself deserves some kind of award.

Amoeba Hollywood's popular ongoing Baby DJ School semester, that began two weeks ago, continues today Saturday April 1st at 11am. Curated by the Brooklyn NY based Baby DJ School, the current 8-week Amoeba Hollywood edutainment series under the tutorship of  DJ Annie Wonder has proven to be very popular not just with kids and parents, but also with those fascinated by the unique concept of teaching toddlers turntablist skills (and more). Yup wee ones as young as 2 months old (and up to 5 years) are getting skills associated with grown ups. Numerous media outlets have covered the unique story including Vice who did a piece that you can see on the Amoeba site. Not solely a class to strictly teach DJing tricks to babies, the ground-breaking series, as described by the Amoeba site,  is one that through "singing, dancing, and interactive technology, little ones are introduced to handling records, mixing and matching beats, and creating fun and funky samples using modern DJ equipment." The progressive series breaks away from the old model of that same old same old nursery rhymes sung to kids by jaded parents. Instead in infuses interest by both generations by updating everything via technology and interaction, but essentially keeping the parent/child teaching model in place. The series takes place at Amoeba Hollywood each Saturday morning at 11am - 11:45am (except Record Store Day on April 22nd) through May 6th and pre-registration is required. So register now for next week and just stop by Amoeba Hollywood today to check it out.
