Kristin Welchez, aka "Dee Dee" of the lo-fi rock group Dum Dum Girls, was in Amoeba Hollywood recently doing some record shopping, and we got a chance to check out her cool picks. Welchez is currently promoting her new solo project Kristin Kontrol, whose debut album X-Communicate just dropped last week.

Over the course of her musical career Welchez has played drums with Grand Ole Party, performed in The Mayfair Set with Mike Sniper of Blank Dogs, released a cover of The Jesus and Mary Chain with Tamaryn and dueted with Belle & Sebastian. For the Kristin Kontrol LP, Welchez partnered with producer Kurt Feldman and Dum Dum Girls guitar player Andrew Miller. This summer she'll be playing select US dates as Kristin Kontrol.

Her first pick is David Bowie's final release before his tragic death, Black Star. Having so far listened to it digitally, Welchez is looking forward to sitting down with a vinyl copy. Also in her bag: The Sound's Jeopardy, whose first track, "I Can't Escape Myself," she particularly loves, and some classic Sinead O'Connor.

But whose cover of a Neil Young classic has been an influence on her new project? Watch the video to find out:
