Julien Baker Green Room Session

This spring Memphis singer-songwriter Julien Baker stopped by Amoeba Hollywood to play a selection of songs from her haunting debut album Sprained Ankle. Accompanied only by her guitar, Baker's Green Room Session is a sparse, introspective affair that leaves a lingering sense of hope and melancholy. Her performance calls to mind a young Chan Marshall of Cat Power and evokes the lonely, dusty country roads of the South she calls home.

Baker starts her set with the yearning "Blacktop" then moves into the opening chords of the lovely, redemptive "Rejoice." She closes with the devastating, gorgeous "Something." The arrangements are simple, but the lyrics and themes expressed are anything but.

Julien Baker is on tour in Europe this summer. The latest tour dates and info can be found on her Facebook page.
