Record Store Day is coming our way Saturday April 19. You can already see what we have going on at Amoeba stores here, and this is a full list of titles that will be available that day. It’s a lot to parse through, so we’ve pulled a few highlights:

Joy Division An Ideal for Living (12”)

joy division record store dayWho wouldn’t want the first-ever Joy Division release? It includes remastered versions of the four songs originally included—“Warsaw,” “No Love Lost,” “Leaders of Men” and “Failures.”

Husker DuCandy Apple Grey LP

husker du candy apple grey lp record store dayA totally awesome and underrated entry to the Husker Du canon. It was their major label debut, so the band’s fifth album got some flack from longtime fans, but revisiting it, Candy Apple Grey sounds as amazing as anything else they did, with songs like the immortal “Don’t Wanna Know If You Are Lonely.” The 1986 album helped set the tone for alternative rock to follow. It’s on grey vinyl for the first time.

Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: The Wizard of Oz LP

the wizard of oz soundtrack lp record store dayPerhaps the greatest family film of all time, The Wizard of Oz’s music is timeless. This one comes with a digital download card and rare tracks, including the original recording of “If I Only Had a Brain.”

NirvanaPennyroyal Tea/I Hate Myself and I Want to Die 7"

nirvana pennyroyal tea lp record store dayIt’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Kurt Cobain died. This single was set to be released in 1994 but was cancelled due to his death. “I Hate Myself and I Want to Die” is a great B-side that I doubt has ever been released before on vinyl.

LCD SoundsystemThe Long Goodbye (LCD Soundsystem Live At Madison Square Garden)

lcd soundsystem the long goodbye lp amoebaLCD Soundsystem’s final show April 2, 2011 at New York’s Madison Square Garden is now legendary, as captured in the film Shut Up and Play the Hits. The nearly four-hour set has now been brought to vinyl in this boxed set, which includes a digital download card. Get it a month before it’s widely released.

The Doors Weird Scenes Inside The Goldmine LP

the doors weird scenes lp record store dayThis reissue of the second Doors compilation following Jim Morrison’s death features two B-sides not found on their greatest hits release, a cover of Willie Dixon’s “(You Need Meat) Don’t Go No Further,” as sung by Ray Manzarek, and the gnarled, bluesy “Who Scared You.”

The Flaming Lips 7 Skies H3 12”

the flaming lips record store day lpThe Flaming Lips are like the kings of Record Store Day, having released an entire album of high-profile collaborations for it in 2012. This time around, they’ve distilled their infamous 24-hour song into a 50-minute epic spread across 10 tracks. It includes a digital download card.

Pinback Pinback LP

pinback lp record store dayOK, so there are more important or whatever things being released on RSD, but the first thing I’ll be spending money on is the first album by San Diego band Pinback. Their first and best album, a classic of late-’90s indie rock, full of intricate, interlocking guitar and bass parts and delicate melodies, has never been released on vinyl. Let’s get it and pretend we’re still in college.

The Velvet UndergroundLoaded LP

velvet underground loaded lp record store dayDo we really have to tell you why this rules? Besides the obvious of it being one of the best rock albums ever, the reissued comes on nifty pink, black and white splatter vinyl.

The Muppet Movie [OST]

the muppet movie soundtrack lp amoebaAthough they keep making new Muppet movies, there's nothing like the first one. The soundtrack to the original movie hasn’t been released on LP in 35 years.
