The big San Francisco Pride Parade 2013 may still be a few days away - Sunday, June 30th - but in the San Francisco Bay Area - similarly to other major metropolitan areas like New York City - the Pride celebrations are all weekend long with the Pride Weekend kicking into gear Thursday, today June 27th, with a bunch of parties and events including the Flamboyant Specimens at the Project Lab, Faetopia - the Pop-Up Queer Arts Festival at Noe and Market in the old Tower Records space, plus the talented rapper Mykki Blanco (pic left, video above) at the Mezzanine in San Francisco all happening later today. In fact Bay Area Pride 2013 celebrations began last night (Wednesday) in Oakland's Uptown district where Telegraph Ave near 19th was blocked off to traffic for the Hella Oakland Street Party: Gay Marriage Rally & Celebration - organized by the promoters of the long running, popular, (and ingeniously titled) Hella Gay Oakland party at the Uptown club in that same block. Note that the same proud promoters of the award winning "Oakland queer dance party" will be throwing their big Hella Gay party at the Uptown on Saturday which they are billing as "Beat the BART" and the "Dyke March Afterparty."

Tomorrow Friday, June 28th, is the big 2013 Trans March starting in Dolores Park (3:00 pm to 7:00 pm - 19th Street and Dolores Street) with a focus on the SF Bay Area transgender community and a mission statement goal of wanting, "to inspire all trans and gender non-conforming people to realize a world where they are safe, loved, and empowered!" Saturday, and all weekend, SF Civic Center will be the epicenter of the Pride celebration. On Saturday morning at Civic Center will be the Pride Pink Triangle Set Up & Ceremony followed by the all day Pride Festival. Meantime over at Dolores Park Saturday is the Dyke Festival & March (Noon to 6pm). At 530pm in the nearby Castro district will be the kick off of Pink Saturday. That night, as well as all the other nights of this extended weekend, will oddness of Pride parties and spinoff events happening in the Bay Area - too many to attempt to list here. On Sunday, June 30th from 11 am to 6:30 pm at Civic Center will be the big day of Pride with the Festival (free but $5 donation requested) following the Pride Parade that begins at 10:30am at Market and Beale Streets and ends up at Market and 8th Streets (near Civic Center). For more detailed information (including map) on the Parade, whose theme this year is "Embrace, Encourage, Empower," click here  and for other SF Pride events click here.

Meanwhile, regardless of your sexual (or even musical) orientation, you should do yourself a favor and make it to see Mykki Blanco tonight at Mezzanine. The NYC based rapper/poet born Michael Quattlebaum Jr., who grew up in San Mateo as well as in North Carolina, is an amazing rapper and incredible stage presence who, given hip-hop's long homophobic history, has chosen the perfect medium to channel his talents through. As well as Mykki Blanco also on tonight's bill are Matrixxman, Vin Sol, and the Stay Gold DJ's. $15.  21+ More info here.
