Amoeba Music Berkeley Hip-Hop Top Five Week Ending 12:14:12

1) Big Boi Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors (Def Jam)
Latest material from Outkast.  More commercially friendly than Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Song of Chico Dusty, but the Big Boi talent's still there. Features A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Killer Mike, and multiple collaborations with Little Dragon (!)

2) The Game Jesus Piece (DGC/Interscope)

New one from ex Dr. Dre protege. Questionable rapping in my opinion (seems like he's style biting whoever guests on each song...?), but Game picks good beats and ropes in a lot of huge names to guest on his songs, including Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, 2 Chainz, and a cool verse from Pusha T.

3) Wu Block Wu Block (E1)

Surprisingly tight collabo between Wu-Tang Clan and The Lox!  Can't say I was expecting much, but my expectations were definitely exceeded.  Strong beat choices, very good verses.  Peep "Drivin Round"
or "Comin for Ya Head" if ya don't believe me!

4) The Coup Sorry to Bother You (Anti-)

This one's not as new as the other titles mentioned, but has been steady outselling just about every new release that drops!  Boots Riley is a staple of both the Bay Area hip hop and the political side of the Bay, so only natural that it be a strong seller.

5) Edison Travel Till Tilt (Fieldwerk)

Special shouts to the homie Edison, best beatmaker out of the Bay!  I managed to get some of these for the store through a label out of Chicago... previously only sold on tour with Aesop Rock, you can't find this one anywhere online!  Seriously, the second I announced it for people I didn't know sent me messages asking if I could send them a download link (I didn't, haha).  Not available on iTunes or through online retailers.  Super strong grimy beat shit, cheap $7.98 price tag.  Cop it!

Thanks so much to my man E-Lit at the Berkeley Amoeba Music store for both the above top five chart and album descriptions and if you have not ever heard him on the air be sure to catch E-Lit DJ on KALX Berkeley where coincidentally the Coup album Sorry to Bother You is number one this week. Great album too that you need for your collection.
