NOIR CITY -- the most popular film noir festival in the world -- celebrates its 10th anniversary with aLaura, Dana Andrews, Gene Tierney, Noir, Film Noir, poster 10-day film extravaganza featuring San Francisco treats, a Dashiell Hammett marathon, freshly preserved 35mm rarities, by-popular-demand encore screenings, surprises galore, and super special guest star ANGIE DICKINSON!

Noir City promises that this will be the darkest and most delirious incarnation yet of San Francisco's popular classic film festival!
Presented under the auspices of the Film Noir Foundation, NOIR CITY remains the only film festival in the world that donates 100% of its profits to the rescue, restoration, and preservation of endangered films---a mission ever more crucial as the world rushes to exclusively embrace digital cinema presentation. "If at-risk films aren't preserved in 35mm within the next two years," says FNF president and NOIR CITY host Eddie Muller, "it could be too late. It's the only guaranteed method of long-term survival. Soon, labs won't exist to do the photo-chemical work, and many films deserving of restoration will be lost in the rush to an all-digital future. Saving films in their original celluloid form is the only way to ensure their survival in any media."

As an added attraction, this year's festival features the live event Everyone Comes to Eddie's: The Noir City Nightclub, a nocturnal celebration of noir style, presented Saturday night, January 28, at theSwedish-American Hall. Entertainment includes Mr. Lucky and the Cocktail Party with Ralph Carney, torch-song temptress Laura Ellis, renowned burlesque queen Evie Lovelle (flying in from France!), and Kansas City's cutting-edge noir-rockers The Latenight Callers. Revelers can party like it's 1949!
Check out the full schedule for NOIR CITY X to get the lowdown, but here are a few favorites and rarities that we here at Amoeba are looking forward to...

Friday, Jan. 20: A whole night of San Francisco noir with Bogart & Bacall's darkest duet, Dark Passage, and Robert Wise's The House On Telegraph Hill.

Saturday, Jan. 21: A tribute to Angie Dickinson, who will be in attendance and interviewed onstage by Eddie Muller between screenings of The Killers and Point Blank!

Thursday, Jan. 26: Make way for the bad girls! Two sassy films not available on DVD:  a brand newNaked Alibi, noir, film, poster, gloria grahame 35mm print of 1954's Naked Alibi (with Gloria Grahame) and 1951's Pickup by sex-noir auteur Hugo Haas.

Saturday, Jan. 28:  A brand new 35mm print of 1949's The Great Gatsby, starring Alan Ladd. The film was buried for decades, but Muller's perseverance persuaded Universal Pictures to strike a preservation print for NOIR CITY. Also showing that night is a new 35mm preservation of the "lost" 1946 classic Three Strangers, which had no viewable prints and has never been released on DVD.

With 26 films showing over ten nights, you can't go wrong!

UPDATE: Muller had the chance to stop by Amoeba San Francisco for a little shopping recently and talked with Amoeba's Audra about what was in his bag!
