Michelangelo Dying [Bone White Vinyl] (LP)

Cate Le Bon

Cate Le Bon's Michelangelo Dying is almost overwhelming in its beauty. Written in the face of heartache, the album is anything but a downer. Instead it's sensual, heady, enveloping. Shimmering post-punk sounds meet swooning chamber pop melodies and new wave grooves. Lyrical imagery goes straight to the heart while painting vivid worlds. What an entrancing, moving, lovely album this is.

Anyway (CD)

Anamanaguchi

Anamanaguchi is back with Anyway , an ultra-analog album from the pioneering chip-tune indie rockers. Originally conceived as a record about rage, on their first studio album in half-a-decade, the band just found themselves having too much fun. Instead, they explore themes of boredom, loneliness, love, attraction, sadness, paranoia, and (yes) anger — often with a bit of humor and slice-of-life realism thrown in. Recorded on vintage gear with songwriter/guitarist Peter Berkman taking on the role of vocalist, the lively Anyway already feels like a classic indie rock album.

R Is For Rocket [Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl] (LP)

Rocket

LA quartet Rocket make quite the impression with their stunning debut album, R Is For Rocket . The band writes noisy, compelling, painfully beautiful songs that will have your heart in your throat. Think My Bloody Valentine if they decided to make a punk rock record. This fuzzed out, hypnotic album is one of the best things you'll hear this year.

no scope (LP)

Crushed

crushed's debut album no scope is moody, affecting, and gorgeous. For a certain kind of listener, it's also nostalgia-inducing: the duo pulls together the best elements of shoegaze, trip-hop, and '90s alternative rock in these gauzy, poignant songs that feel like an endless autumn afternoon. The lyrics grapple with life choices, despair, and the age old question "was it worth it?" Yet the band also finds resilience, resolution, and a reason to believe in these dusky songs. no scope is a lovely album that makes us excited for more from crushed.

Something More Than Free [10th Anniversary Denim Vinyl] (LP)

Jason Isbell

It's easy to understand why Jason Isbell's energetic and evocative album  Something More Than Free netted the rootsy singer/songwriter his first Grammy Award. It's a boisterous blend of country, rock, folk, blues, and classic rhythm & blues that spotlights Isbell's unique storytelling and melodic abilities. The new 10 Year Anniversary edition adds a special bluesy B-side to the mix, "Should I Go Missing," that's gritty, raw, and smokin' hot. Isbell is one of the most respected artists in the country rock/Americana realm and  Something More Than Free  sounds just as fresh today as it did back in 2015.

Wonderlust (CD)

Pavlov's Dog

Prog rock fans, take heed. '70s prog darlings Pavlov's Dog are back with the wonderful Wonderlust . These new original songs are epic and grandiose, dark and melancholic, jazzy and cool. There are also moments of rock 'n' roll rambunctiousness, with lovely violins and folksy elements — see lead single "Jet Black Cadillac." This is an inventive and exciting album that'll thrill fans in the market for smart, classic, eclectic progressive rock.

Horizons / West [Opaque Maroon Vinyl] (LP)

Thrice

Thrice return with the excellent companion album to 2021's Horizons / East . The new release, Horizons / West , is a powerful record that blends moments of quiet introspection with confrontational post-rock intensity. The band is in experimental mode throughout the album, evolving the sound from menacing metal to glitchy electronic to earnest alt-rock. These multilayered songs are rich with meaning and driven by relentless riffs.

Worldwide [Pink Vinyl] (LP)

Snõõper

Every once in a while a punk rock record comes out that just bowls you over with its irresistible melodies and wild inventiveness. That's Sn??per's Worldwide , an album that recalls the great female-led punk bands of the '70s and '80s. It's about reinvention, transformation, and the sometimes brutal places in between. The sound is fast, upbeat, and just straight up fun. Worldwide is essential listening for anyone who needs to let a little light in...while still moshing it out.

The Father Of Make Believe (New Entities Edition) (CD)

Coheed And Cambria

The New Entities Edition is the deluxe version of Coheed & Cambria's The Father of Make Believe , which features four new songs and introduces four new characters or “Entities” to the band's Vaxis / The Amory Wars saga. On  The Father of Make Believe , Coheed and Cambria fuses stadium rock, hardcore, and even a bit of nu-metal, deftly blending harder sounds with melodic choruses into tracks that serve up surprise gut punch after gut punch.

Is It Now? (CD)

Automatic

Got a sweet tooth for icy, dreamy post-punk electronics? Automatic's Is It Now? is here for you. The LA trio describe their sound as "deviant pop," an apt description for their fusion of New Order-esque synthlines and Stereolab-adjacent washes of sound with krautrock, synth pop, and dance-punk sounds. While writing the album, the band found themselves asking what it meant to experience joy in a world that often feels like it's falling apart. Is It Now? is the answer. Tense and crystalline, atmospheric and haunted, these songs feel both timely and timeless.

Dance Called Memory [Clear w/Black & Blue Vinyl] (LP)

Nation Of Language

Nation of Language brings a wistful and dreamy '80s pop sound to their latest, Dance Called Memory . The songs are cathedral-like in sound, shimmering with longing. And while the genre could be loosely defined as post-punk and the atmospherics are tangible, the band's newfound fusion of new romantic, goth, sophistipop, and synthpop sounds unlike anyone else in contemporary music. Dance is filled with dazzling melancholia, a heady album that goes straight to the heart.

Cut & Rewind [Red Vinyl] (LP)

Say She She

Say She She is pure cool. Their latest, Cut & Rewind , is an epic collection of songs that bridge the gap between mutant disco, punk rock, and funk. These tracks will make you shake your booty. They'll stop you in your tracks with moments of shimmering disco beauty. They'll give you goosebumps as you recall the wildly inventive '70s sounds that made you fall in love with music, whether you were there the first time around or having your mind blown years later by the beguiling rhythms and melodies of an earlier era. A must-hear.
