Stuff Your Face at LA Street Food Fest June 28

la street food festAmoeba is sponsoring the LA Street Food Fest, with gourmet street eats at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on June 28 from 6 to 10 p.m.

The all-ages Summer Tasting Event, now in its fifth year, features food from nearly 100 chefs, restaurants, carts and trucks, plus craft beer, cocktails, music, free parking and more. It’s a pay-once, eat-and-drink-a-lot deal. Tickets are $55 or $85 for VIP/early admission at 4 p.m. (plus a service fee) for all you can eat and drink.

Participants are still being announced, but here are some things to look forward to:

-A craft beer garden, tequila tent and mixology cocktails (21+)

-An ice cream social, featuring frozen treats

-Vote for a People’s Choice Award in the Street Food Cook-Off

Parking at the Rose Bowl will be free for ticket holders. Find out more at lastreetfoodfest.com.

Make Music Pasadena takes place Saturday, June 7 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Amoeba will be on hand with vinyl, band T-shirts, 45s, Amoeba swag, Amoeba Happy Hour gift certificates and more. Stop by our booth and say hi! Plus, if you wear your Amoeba swag to the festival and stop by our booth, we'll give you an Amoeba gift certificate (while supplies last; items purchased at MMP on 6/7 do not qualify).

For a suggested $5 donation, you’ll get to see indie rock bands like Surfer BloodTennis and Saint Motel, international pop star Yuna, electro pop act Sylvan Esso, melodic acoustic band Run River North, local acts like So Many Wizards, Shirley Rolls, Bloody Death Skull and many more.

Pasadena Cit College Record SwapAmoeba returns to one of the biggest and best record swap meets in the LA area, the Pasadena City College Flea Market and Record Swap, on Sunday, March 2, 2014. With over 500 vendors, the Flea Market features antiques and collectibles, records, tools, clothes, toys and much more, not to mention food and good company. And admission is always free!

The Flea Market and Record Swap is from 7am-3pm. Look for the Amoeba booth located in the Bonnie St. parking structure (Lot 5) on the third level. We always have a great selection of vinyl, from dollar records to collectibles in every genre. Come out and enjoy your Sunday with us!

The LA Weekly calls the show "the best source for used records in all of Southern California."

EAST PASADENA

East Pasadena sign


This neighborhood exploration is about tiny East Pasadena. Despite its name, East Pasadena is an independent community and no more a part of the city of Pasadena than are South Pasadena or Altadena. Historically it was a much larger community but through many annexations it has shrunk to a small area that also includes the neighborhoods of Michillinda Park, a portion of Chapman Woods, and several numbered tracts.

South Pasadena is neighbored by Pasadena to the north and west, San Marino to the west, East San Gabriel to the south, and Arcadia to the east. Though an independent community, many of its businesses have Pasadena addresses.  East Pasadena is a small but diverse As of the 2010 census, the population was just 6,144 and 52% white, 35% Latino of any race (mostly Mexican), 23% Asian (mostly Chinese and Filipino), 3% black, and 1% Native American. Though the fastest growing population in the last ten years was Asian-American, it still has a ways to before it reaches a plurality and thus joins its neighbors in "The Far Eastside." Whatever East Pasadenans' ancestral origins, it is heavy on the American Flags... and USMC flags... and one Colombian one.
