100 Famous Rock Guitar Riffs Offers Concise History of Rock N' Roll

Posted by Billyjam, July 17, 2012 10:00am | Post a Comment

Rock music has way too many incredibly memorable guitar riffs to limit a best of list to just one hundred, but the 100 riffs that guitarist Alex Chadwick of The Chicago Music Exchange came up with for the above video performance ain't half bad, and it is a nice informal overview of the history of rock n' roll. Sure it's a subjective selection that includes a lot of mega hits of the genre, and no doubt every rock fan could come up with their own unique list of a hundred best guitar riffs. But I like what Alex has done: from his playing to his choices of riffs, and from how he segues from song to song, to how he plays it on his 1958 Fender Strat all in chronological order. Below is that list of songs and artists in order with the artist names that are blue highlighted linking back to the Amoeba Online Store. where you can find their respective music (CDs, LPs, DVDs) including (in near all cases) the song played by Alex.

Ozzy Osbourne Signing at The Booksmith in SF, 10/22!

Posted by The Bay Area Crew, October 3, 2011 05:05pm | Post a Comment
Meet the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne onOzzy Osbourne signing san francisco booksmith Amoeba Trust Me I'm Dr. Ozzy October 22nd at 3:00pm when the Prince of Darkness himself graces our good friends over at The Booksmith on Haight Street in San Francisco!

Ozzy will be signing copies of his new book, TRUST ME, I'M DR. OZZY: Advice from Rock's Ultimate Survivor, and select albums that Amoeba will have on sale at Booksmith. Based on his ongoing, hilarious Rolling Stone column, his new book finds him embracing his status as a medical marvel to tell incredible stories not found in his memoir (I Am Ozzy), offer advice that no human should follow, and shed light on his seemingly superhuman ability to stay alive.

TRUST ME, I'M DR. OZZY includes some of the best material from the columns as well as longer memoir-style survival stories that Ozzy has remembered since writing I Am Ozzy, his answers to celebrities’ medical questions, charts and sidebars, and much more.  Part humor, part memoir, and part bad advice, the best way to describe this book is 100% pure Ozzy.

More info about the signing event:

Every year Record Store Day just gets bigger and bigger, and the craziness grows! Here in SF before we opened the line was INSANE outside our doors and the first person in line had been there since 6am! That's some dedication! Even more astounding, customers were calling Friday night and asking if they could camp out for prime spots on the big day!

At 10:30am on the button, the doors were opened and people swarmed into the treasure-laden vinyl aisles of Amoeba SF. There were hoardes of people packing the rows and surrounding the 7"s. Watch an awesome video below shot by Audra of the line and the vibe before the doors were flung open!

Difficult Interviews

I've made the mistake of dealing with Barthes, Debord and a bunch of other pretentious prattle to analyze a little movie that few probably saw or will see. So while all of that's working itself out in my noggin, here are two good interviews with difficult subjects that I recently enjoyed at Amoeba.com.

My pal Heidi takes on Ozzy:

My pal Kyle takes on Michel Gondry:
