This latest mashup has actually been around for a few months now but I just caught up with it this week thanks to the good folks at the San Francisco found global mash up club Bootie who posted it on their website. I think that the above melding of Thin Lizzy and The Pixies by Phil RetroSpector is just pure brilliance since it so effortlessly melds two songs into one - it's like they were always meant to be heard this way as "The Boys Are Back in Heaven." So popular is the Bootie SF party that it happens every Saturday night at the DnA Lounge on 11th Street in San Francisco. Most parties tend to be monthlies. Only a rare club night can sustain weekly parties. So to have one every Saturday and a major metropolitan club speaks highly of the brand that Bootie SF's hard-working promoters / DJs / producers Adrian and Mysterious D (aka A plus D) have built up over the years. In fact they've taken the Bootie party all over the country and the world.

At Bootie SF, which has become the world's biggest mashup party, happens every Saturday at the DNA Lounge on 11th Street in San Francisco. Tonight the line up is creators/residents A plus D throwing down all the latest and best mashup jams plus Smash-Up Derby, the live mashup rock band, do a set at 11pm. Additionally tonight will be a performance from Girl Tack ("the world's first Girl Talk tribute act) doing, Night Ripper in it's entirety. The guys who make up Elvis Fantasay 2001 + Voicedude specialize in making audio & video mash ups of Elvis Presley's music mixed with either a variety of contemporary pop acts or alternately remixing / mashing up Elvis with himself. They keep churning out new mash ups at a most impressive rate, and then posting them up on YouTube with mp3 download links embedded usually. Their very latest is Elvis Fantasay + Voicedude: "Suspicious Minds Mash Up Blu Ray" and others also created in the past two weeks include their HD live remix of Elvis Fantasay + Travis Ledoyt "I'm In Love (All Shook Up)" (below) and, from a couple of months ago, their mash up of The King with Lady GaGa (above). This latest Mash-Up of the Week is a refreshing change from the usual mash-ups being produced these days. Typically mash up producers base their tracks off of either solely contemporary pop songs, or else current pop hits mixed with an older era pop tune (such as Lady GaGa + Kei$ha with Michael Jackson). But "Whole Lotta Sabbath" works exclusively off of classic hard rock sources -- namely Zeppelin and Sabbath.

The audio/video mixer of this mash up is Wax Audio out of Australia, who has been creating mixes for the better part of the past decade. I first learned about him six years ago during the Bush administration when, like myself and the DJs of Mass Destruction crew (DJ Pone, Dawgisht, DJ ALF), he was also doing remixes of George W. Bush speeches. One of Wax Audio's greatest pieces was his remix of John Lennon's "Imagine;" retitling it "Imagine This," he chopped, word by word, Bush saying each lyric of the song and matched it over an instrumental.

I caught up with Wax Audio earlier today (later today in Australia), who told me that the "Whole Lotta Sabbath" video is indeed brand new but that the audio track has been done for a minute. "To be honest, my main motive to make the mix at the time was just to get a real classic rock/metal mash-up out there," he told the Amoeblog. "I'm a big fan of the old bands and there didn't seem to be too many mashes of them at the time. But once I started, I thought the concept was really cool. Sabbath singing about the evil of men and war and Zeppelin praising women and love. The track is entirely comprised of the original Zeppelin and Sabbath tracks ("War Pigs" and "Whole Lotta Love") but there's also plenty of other Zep samples in there too -- "Dazed & Confused" mostly, but a few other bits and pieces. The video shows footage from the Vietnam and Iraq wars and also shows Sabbath performing from both those eras, which is interesting. There's also stuff of the Hindenburg disaster, which relates to the Zeppelin name and a photo of a Celtic Cross I took in Scotland (relating to Sabbath and their penchant for crosses)."

Tomorrow, August 29th, may be the date that would have been Michael Jackson's 52nd birthday, but two San Francisco party promoters & fans of the late, great pop star are celebrating a day early with MJ themed parties in both SF and the Midwest. The ever-successful traveling and San Francisco founded mash-up party Bootie will be celebrating tonight with an MJ themed mash-up event at the DNA Lounge! The mash-up of the week, "Everybody Speaks No Americano," comes care of Mashup Germany and was uploaded a week ago by YouTuber Ben Stiller. The irresistible audio/video concoction cleverly incorporates several sources, including the Backstreet Boys, but draws primarily from the current quirky-but-infectious surprise international pop hit by Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP, "We No Speak Americano." 

The new mash-up takes the regular radio single version plus two remix versions (including the Chaos Club mix) of the summer novelty hit and then melds them with the Backstreet Boys' 1998 hit "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" plus the overture from Phantom of the Opera and segments from both Bob Sinclar Feat. Dollarman and Big Ali & Makedah's "Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)," and Benny Benassi's sexually charged 2009 club hit "Satisfaction."

The end result is a catchy-as-hell, sugary pop confection that packs a similar appeal to that of the main source the mash-up draws from, "We Speak No Americano." That electro pop record, a studio collaboration between Australians Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP, originally quietly surfaced back in February of this year when it was released on the Australian label Sweat It Out. The single is constructed around an old sample from the 1956 Italian recording of the song "Tu vuo fa l'Americano" by Italian singer Renato Carosone which was a satire piece about an Italian imitating the American lifestyle. The dance/pop song has topped charts all over and this week is #1 in such countries as Germany, Argentina, & Belgium.
