Here at Amoeba Music we love our regular in-house DJ series called MANDALA. This event features all manner of guest selectors, from Egyptian Lover to DJ Female Convict Scorpion, traversing multiple frequencies of the sound and vision spectrum, more often than not discovering new sonic sweet spots as the beat goes on. This Wednesday, November 6 from 5-7pm, MANDALA presents Amoeba SF resident "weird guy" music mavens and salient sounds selector-gurus Dan Derogatis and Julian Maestas as they peruse and play nothing but DOLLAR JAM$ from Amoeba's clearance vinyl section signalling the return of the very special "anything goes" MANDALA set we like to call MANDOLLAR! This most auspicious confluence of experimental ears, passionate bargain bin excavation and solid music knowledge will surely make for an unbridled and unpredictable 120 minutes never before heard nor heard again. The upside of shopping during this particular set will be that every record you hear will be up for grabs, immediately following play.

Never forget: Records are your best entertainment value!

What do you get when two nerds from the same record store meet regularly to discuss all manner of music, art and general enjoyment over rum flights and multiple cocktails at San Francisco's best stocked "tiki" lounge? Hmmm, somehow I can't rememeber...

...oh right, "Ports O' Call" --- three hours of uninterrupted Exotica mixed live on the wheels of steel as a part of Amoeba's weekly, in-house "Mandala" DJ series! DJ Martin Baxter Lyman (a.k.a. Amoeba jazz-man extraordinaire, Mr. Scott Walker) and DJ Long Gone Gamelan Gong (that's me!) will be exploring the experimental themes and concepts of Polynesian infused grooves from the founding fathers of Exotica and their Tiki temple grounds to popular Hapa Haole and Surf styles, with respect to native influences inherent to and modern music influenced by the genre. So if all sounds Exotica are your thing then this Friday, February 25th, from 6 to 9pm is the best time for you to come down to Amoeba Music in San Francisco to do a little vinyl treasure hunting while we mix up some island fever inducing south seas sonic realness. Requests welcome!

MANDALA is Amoeba's weekly in-house DJ series -- the evening when the Amoeba staff take to the stage to spin their favorite tunes!

Each MANDALA session is two 90-minute DJ sets, guided only by the far-ranging imagination of the DJs. Started at Amoeba San Francisco in 1998, MANDALA continues every Friday in San Francisco and Wednesday at Amoeba Hollywood.
