Special DJ Set At Amoeba San Francisco @ 2pm Today by DJ/Producer/Detroit Hip-Hop Ambassador House Shoes

Michael "House Shoes" Buchanan
, the noted Detroit DJ/producer & hip-hop mentor who plays a special DJ set at 2pm at Amoeba San Francisco today in celebration of his new album Let It Go (available in both CD and vinyl formats at today's Amoeba in-store in advance of Tuesdays June 19th release), has long been Detroit hip-hop's greatest ambassador. Most notably back in 1996, via his small but influential House Shoes Recordings label, he released J Dilla's (then known as Jay Dee) Unreleased EP.

House Shoes was also central in promoting a whole slew of other hip-hop artists from Detroit. This he has done over the past couple of decades both while he was living in the Motor City (he left in 2006) and since he moved to LA several years ago. In LA House Shoes was a part of the LA Fat Beats store right up to its closing events two years ago but wherever he goes, it seems he can't but rep his hometown city of Detroit which he travels back to frequently.

The long list of Detroit artists he has worked with include Guilty Simpson and Elzhi.  And no doubt today's Amoeba DJ set by House Shoes will include a lot of Detroit hip-hop - many of his own productions including tracks off his brand new anticipated, long overdue debut album. Note that he also recently released the 12" EP The Time which was a hot seller at the Hollywood Amoeba store - it went straight into the top five chart the week it was released. He has also released a couple of records two years ago - one via Dublin, Ireland indie label All City (profiled on the Amoeblog here). On Tuesday next, June 19th, Tres Records will release House Shoes official debut album Let It Go and today only at Amoeba San Francisco you can purchase advance copies of the album (and get them signed) at the in-store DJ set which begins at 2pm. More details here.

Berkeley World Music Festival Set by Fely Tchaco Confirmed Greatness of Amoeba Music In-Stores

Posted by Billyjam, June 4, 2012 01:37pm | Post a Comment

Amoeba Berkeley
's packed, high energy, and hella fun in-store performance by Ivory Coast singer Fely Tchaco on Saturday evening (June 2nd), proved just what a wonderful musical gift to the world the Amoeba Music in-stores are.

And Saturday's extended concert, which was part of the larger Berkeley World Music Festival that ran all day Saturday in the Telegraph Ave/Peoples Park area, was extra wonderful. As the happy guy beside me at Amoeba on Saturday, in the aisle nestled between the reggae CDs and the used jazz vinyl, enthused at the one hour, five minute mark in the energetic show, "I've never seen any show at Amoeba Music that went for longer than an hour. This is unusual. And I come to Amoeba in-stores all the time. They're great!"  Indeed they are great and Saturday's show, that culminated in lots of audience members jumping up on stage to dance along with the band, was extra great since it ran for a full hour and a quarter which was especially long because it was part of the festival. Now in its ninth year the Berkeley World Music Festival included Peoples Park stage headliner Maria Muldaur and her Bluesianna Band whose set finished at 6pm. And afterwards many of the Muldaur audience exited the park & headed down the half block to filter into Amoeba and fill all the remaining open spaces in the aisles of the big record store to catch Fely's great set.

Hip-Hop Rap-Up, Week Ending 05.25.12: Amoeba Hollywood Top 5: El-P, Psycho Realm, Killer Mike, House Shoes, Three Loco, 45 Sessions + other Memorial Day Weekend happenings in the Bay Area

El-P "Stay Down (feat Nick Diamonds)" live on Letterman last week (May 2012)

Amoeba Hollywood Hip-Hop Top 5 : Week Ending May 5th, 2012

1) El-P Cancer4Cure (Fat Possum)

2) Psycho Realm Presents Sick Jacken & Cyni In Terror Tapes 2 (MB Recordings)

3) Killer MIke R.A.P. Music (William Street)

4) House Shoes Time EP (Tres Records)

5) Odd Future The Of Tape Vol. 2  (Odd Future)

Lots of great new releases on the brand new Amoeba Hip-Hop Top Five chart from the Hollywood Amoeba store this week including in the number one slot El-P's welcome return, after 5 years with no new releases, with his all killer, twelve track album Cancer4Cure (aka C4C which is avail in both CD and LP formats) via the Fat Possum record company (he folded his Def Jux record label a while back). The Amoeba website store calls this latest El-P release "his strongest work since his debut, Fantastic Damage" and praising the supertalented East Coast producer/emcee for sounding "as energized as he did on that decade-old debut, matching Killer Mike (whose own excellent R.A.P. Music also recently came out and was produced by El-P) rhyme for rhyme on standout “Tougher Colder Killer,” also featuring fellow Def Jux alumnus Despot."
