Now Entering Ninth Year of Their Successful Mashup Party, Bootie SF's Tireless Duo of A+D Show No Signs Of Slowing Down

Last Saturday night at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, the tirelessly hard-working duo of A+D (a.k.a. Adrian and Mysterious D - the DJs / promoters / remixers and producers of the ever-popular weekly mashup club Bootie SF and the myriad of similarly themed Bootie parties they oversee in numerous cities including New York and Los Angeles) celebrated their 8th year anniversary with a mega blow out party at the packed-to-capacity SF club.

In true tradition, the hardworking pair didn't simply play music for people to dance to at last weekend's party, but instead went above and beyond the typical duties of club promoters by putting on a huge production -- one that filled the club with festive streamersand NYE style balloons ready to drop, a full concert by their spinoff live mash up band Smash Up Derby (a bad ass six-piece featuring Adrian on lead vocals) whose mixedmedia set included an informative history of the mashup projected onto a largescreen, and600complimentary mashup compilation CDs pressed especially for the occasion. They also gave away pairs of their Bootie brand headphones.

Their DJ sets featured many mashups they produced themselves, including their inspired "Girl Power" mashup of Kreayshawn's "Gucci Gucci," which cleverly blends in Toni Basil, The Go Go's, Le TIgre, The Ting Tings, and The Trashwomen (Kreayshawn's mom's old band).  And when they dropped it into the mix at 1am, the new track set the packed dancefloor into a screaming frenzy.

FACE PAINT ILLUSIONIST JAMES KUHN ON HALLOWEEN, ART, & GOD.

Posted by Billyjam, October 31, 2009 09:00am | Post a Comment

Forget MySpace and check out MyFace, or, rather, the art that gifted face paint artist/illusionist James Kuhn does, displayed on both his Flickr page and his Face Paint In Motion YouTube channel. The self-described James Kuhn"Artist, Face paint illusionist, Drag Queen, Performance Artist, and full time Christian" has been uploading videos of his face paint art, such as the Rocky Horror "Sweet Transvestite" themed clip above which he posted two days ago, or the brilliant Golden Girls clip (below) that he produced and uploaded six months ago.

Ever the perfectionist, Kuhn said of the Golden Girls piece at the time, "I planned on painting Sophia on my forehead! but ran out of room... I need a bigger head! I am not too happy with this one, I should have searched for better pics to use as my models. The ones I pulled up were too small and Bea was in black and white. I should not try such a big project on a weeknight! Better for Saturdays when I can play all day long and am usually more rested. I gotta get some new glasses too."

On the Three Oaks, Michigan artist's YouTube channel, which is subtitled BibleArtWork, Kuhn has an impressive 234 different videos of various face paint illusions uploaded, usually with a cool accompanying soundtrack, ranging from Bettie Page Pin Up Girl to Miss Piggy & Kermit to Dracula and many, many more.

HITLER PLANS BURNING MAN, TIX UPDATE, REMINDER TO PISS CLEAR

Posted by Billyjam, August 25, 2008 04:15pm | Post a Comment

I first saw the above video a few months ago but figured that today -- the official first day of the 2008  burning manBurning Man Festival, which runs through Sunday, September 1st -- would be the appropriate time to post this very funny clip.
Burning Man started 22 years ago on Baker Beach in San Francisco. As Burning Man gets more widely known with each passing year, it seems more important for the organizers of the event to reiterate the goals of this unique participatory arts event/mass party. This time round they pose the following to folks planning on attending the event in the desert: "Leave narrow and exclusive ideologies at home and carefully consider your immediate experience. What has America achieved that you admire? What has it done or failed to do that fills you with dismay? What is laudable? What is ludicrous? Put blame aside, let humor thrive, and dare to contemplate a larger question: What can America contribute to the world?"

Note that for this year's Burning Man the ticket sales timeline has been extended and it is possible to buy tix online through midnight tomorrow (Tuesday, August 26th) at this link. Advance tix are always required. You can't just roll up on the event at Black Rock City, Nevada and expect admission without having your tickets arranged beforehand. Nor is it ever advisable to attempt to sneak in (as some try each year) to avoid paying the pricey admission.

The Bay Area and Sacramento walk-in ticket outlets stopped selling tickets yesterday but the Reno ticket outlet is selling tix through the end of the business day tomorrow.  Also, those with will call tix must collect them by noon on Saturday at the latest. Click here for last minute ticket info. And if you are one of the tens of thousands expected to descend upon the world renowned festival, remember to be safe and most importantly, drink lots of water (i.e., piss clear) and read over the essential official 2008 Burning Man Survival Guide.
