Record Store Day Black Friday Vinyl Highlights 2016

The day after Thanksgiving, or Black Friday, traditionally kicks off the holiday shopping season, but for us we know it as Record Store Day Black Friday! A wide range of must-have collectible new release 7"s, EPs, and full-length albums will hit independent record stores starting on Friday, November 25th. In addition to carrying 100+ RSDBF releases, our stores will also have special one-day sales on turntables, gift certificates (3-4pm), posters, headphones & more. See what's happening at Amoeba on Black Friday.

Once the limited RSDBF releases are gone, they're gone, so be sure to do your research on everything we'll be getting here at Amoeba (download the full .pdf list). Please note: All Record Store Day Black Friday items are limit one per customer, no holds or phone orders.

If you can't make it in to one of our stores on 11/25, there's still hope you can snag one of these titles. We'll add remaining RSDBF releases to Amoeba.com starting Saturday, 11/26.

Faith No More at Amoeba SF

As a special Black Friday surprise, Amoeba San Francisco welcomed Faith No More for a live performance. Their new 7" single, "Motherfucker," was released that day just for Record Store Day Faith No More, Amoeba San Francisco, Secret ShowBlack Friday and supplies flew off the shelves! "Motherfucker" is the first single from their upcoming album to be released in 2015. It will be their first studio recording since 1997.

Their secret 6pm show was announced via the internet at 2pm that day, which may seems like short notice but the store welcomed over 800 devoted fans between the announcement and show time.

Mike Patton, Bill Gould, Roddy Bottum, Mike Bordin, and Jon Hudson were joined on stage by a mysterious leather-clad figure known only as The Gimp. Fans were familiar with The Gimp as he had been taunting them for days with hilarious hint-dropping videos.

Faith No More played a face-melting set of five songs: "Motherfucker, "As The Worms Turns," "Spirit," "Ashes To Ashes," and "Superhero." If you don't know that last song, that's because it's from their upcoming album. Watch for it in 2015.

record store day black friday amoeba

Black Friday launches the holiday shopping season the day after Thanksgiving with lots of great deals. Instead of yanking someone by the hair off of that $10 barbecue set at Wal-Marts or whatever, you can come to Amoeba for a variety of deals on turntables, Blu-rays, gift certificates and more. Additionally, there will be nearly 140 Record Store Day exclusive Black Friday releases to choose from—see the whole list (.pdf) here. That’s a lot of records, bro/broette! Here are 10 that stood out to me.

David BowieSue (Or in a Season of Crime) 12”

david bowie sue or in a season of crime“Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)” is an unsettling new David Bowie track full of jazzy horns and creepy lyrics about a dissolving relationship that may end in murder. It’s backed on this 7” by another new Bowie song, “Tis a Pity She Was a Whore,” a fluctuating electro-rocker that shares its name with a play from the 1600s by John Ford. Both songs will also appear on the Bowie retrospective Nothing Has Changed, which came out today, but here’s your chance to get them separately from that. Hear both tracks in all their maddening glory below:
