New "What's In My Bag?" Episode With Belle & Sebastian

Posted by Amoebite, April 16, 2015 11:20am | Post a Comment

The Scottish indie pop band Belle & Sebastian  just rocked day 2 of Coachella. Singer Stewart Lee Murdoch handpicked several fans and invited them to dance alongside the band on stage. Belle & Sebastian performed selections from their latest release, Girls In Peacetime Want to Dance (Matador). For the new record, producer Ben H. Allen III was brought in to help beef up the band's songs. Allen encourgaed the group to take chances musically and the tactic resulted in pop magic. Girls In Peacetime Want to Dance is arguably the most pop Belle & Sebastian has ever been. This is definitely a good thing and fans will appreciate and love the new tunes. The booming synth track "The Party Line" is the stuff radio programmers drool over. Go cop the new album and if you're feeling lucky, try and score tickets to see them rock Coachella a second time next weekend!

Belle & Sebastian visited Amoeba Hollywood for a special in-store signing in support of the newly released Girls In Peacetime Want to Dance. We had a packed house with adoring fans excited to meet the band. While on their visit, the band hung out with our What's In My Bag? crew and shared what they found while shopping Amoeba. Guitarist Stevie Jackson digs up a copy of Jack Nicholson's 1970 directorial debut,  Drive, He Said (Columbia Pictures, a sweet find given you can't get it in the UK. Sarah mentions she has been practicing French and picks up a French film classic, Eyes Without a Face (Criterion). Bassist Bobby picks up a reissue of T. Rex pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Very nice! From books by famous African-American poet and playwright LeRoi Jones to vintage Jefferson Airplane concert posters to vinyl by Sleater-Kinney, Belle & Sebastian find some great stuff. Watch the full episode for all their cool picks.
