English singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding performed at Amoeba Hollywood back in October, just a few days after her sophomore album, Halcyon (Interscope Records), was released. It was one of only a handful of performances she did during release week, and her fans turned out in full force. The line to get into her in-store performance followed the side of Amoeba along Ivar Blvd, wrapping around the block. For those unable to attend the show, it was also webcast live on Amoeba.com.

This in-store performance was Ms. Goulding's second at Amoeba. She performed at Amoeba San Francisco back in April 2011. At that point, she was just beginning her US promotion for her debut album, Lights (Interscope Records), which was released in March 2010 in the UK and had already reached number one there. That SF in-store was truly special and she decided to release it as an EP, Live at Amoeba San Francisco (Interscope Records).

Justin Timberlake has the internet (and me, who am I kidding?) in a tizzy this morning after what appears to be hints that he has a new album coming soon. After a simple message on his Twitter last night telling people to tune in this morning, he tweeted saying just "To Whom It May Concern...I'm Ready" and a link to a video with the same name.

The clip features the artist walking through many rooms with his voice over answering the question about whether he is done making music and explaining his process making music. The video ends with him going into the booth in a recording studio, putting on a pair of headphones, and saying "I'm Ready."

Unfortunately it's just a tease as we apparently have to wait until Sunday for the next announcement. I want details! Confirmation that this is actually happening would be nice. Then a first track, album date, tour dates...Is that too much to ask?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, JT has been working on a full album with Timbaland. Their work together on his first two albums was pretty amazing, so I have pretty high expectations, but I'll try to keep my excitement in check. For a few more days at least. Come on JT, the music world misses you!

We recently had the entire cast of The Sarah Silverman Program - Sarah Silverman, Laura Silverman, Brian Posehn, Steve Agee and Jay Johnston - visit Amoeba Hollywood for a signing of the new Complete Series DVD Box Set. The television series, which lasted three seasons on Comedy Central from 2007-2010, featured Sarah Silverman as a fictionalized version of herself with real-life older sister Laura playing her younger sister, Brian Posehn and Steve Agee as her geeky gay neighbors, and Jay Johnston as "Officer Jay."

Before their signing, they chatted with us about some of their favorite DVDs including Doctor Who and The Royle Family, comedy LPs, and "some devil things."

Trying to narrow down my favorite 2012 "What's In My Bag?" videos is a little bit like asking me to choose my favorite children. Each one is special and unique in its own way. But 'tis the season of "Best Of" lists, so here is my attempt at naming the top WIMBs from 2012, listed according to date posted because, really, picking 10 was hard enough.

John Flansburgh - March 5, 2012

The guitarist and co-founder of They Might Be Giants, John Flansburgh, did a "show and tell" at Amoeba Hollywood, selecting reissues by The Zombies, Blossom Dearie, and The Hollies, plus California funk by Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Band. After posting the video, we found out that half of John's picks from this Amoeba trip, and other records he'd picked up while on tour, were unfortunately burned in a trailer fire. The ever-busy producer, songwriter, and filmmaker Dave Stewart visited Amoeba Hollywood recently for an episode of What's In My Bag?. I was most familiar with him because of his work in the Eurythmics and his recent project, SuperHeavy, featuring the unlikely combination of Mick Jagger, Indian film composer A.R. Rahman, British soul singer Joss Stone, reggae artist Damian Marley and himself. What I didn't know about Stewart was his extensive history producing albums for other artists, including Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, The Neville Brothers, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Bryan Ferry and many more. In fact, he won a Brit Award in 1986 for Best Producer.

During our shoot, he told a few stories about his experiences filming with R.L. Burnside for his 1991 documentary Deep Blues: A Musical Pilgrimage to the Crossroads; Mick Jagger being "Mick Jagger on stage" even in the recording studio; and the genesis for "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)."
