Amoeba Review
Wilcovered began life as a Jeff Tweedy-curated covers compilation for the November issue of Uncut magazine. Featuring newly recorded versions of Wilco songs by friends and colleagues of the band, it’s now reaching an even wider audience—a great development, considering how excellent so many of these tracks are, just on their own. Each artist works their own brand of magic on the original Wilco numbers, with Sharon Van Etten lending extra emotional ache to “Radio Cure,” Cate Le Bon adding a tinge of folked out moodiness to “Company in My Back,” and Low bringing their devastatingly pared-down approach to “War on War.” And that’s just for starters! This is your rare compilation album that’s all killer, no filler, featuring some of the most vital names in the indie scene today.
