Ceci Bastida is an LA-based, Latin alternative artist who began her musical career at 15 in Tijuana, Mexico as the vocalist, songerwriter and keyboardist in ska-punk band Tijuana No! The band quickly rose to fame in Mexico in the '90s, was signed by BMG and released three albums, NO, Transgresores de la Ley, and Contra-Revolucion Avenue, during their twelve years together. With Tijuana No!, Bastida wrote and produced songs with Manu Chao, Fishbone, Bad Brains, Kid Frost, and The Breeders.
Bastida later joined the band of Mexican alternative-pop artist Julieta Venegas in 2000, singing back-up vocals and playing keyboards, but eventually embarked on her own solo career. In 2006, Bastida self-released the EP Front BC, which quickly recieved critical praise from Latina, Pitchfork and LA Weekly. Her collaboration with DJ and producer XXXChange Controlar became an Internet hit after being picked up by TheFader.com. She was also featured on S.O.S., a collaboration, with rapper Pigeon John and the Israeli hip hop crew Soulico.
Bastida released her first full-length solo album, Veo La Marea, in 2011 with tracks produced by Diplo featuring Rye-Rye, a duet with Mexican rapper Nina Dioz, and a bilingual cover of The Go-Go's "This Town" featuring Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong. Veo La Marea was also nominated for a Latin Grammy for Cuando Vuelvas A Caer (Best Alternative Song).
She has opened for Julieta Venegas, Girl Talk, Zoe, and Ozomatli and shared bills with Jenny Lewis, Dengue Fever, and Bomba Estereo. Bastida performed at South by Southwest in 2009, Lollapalooza in 2011 and will be performing at the TriTone Latin Music & Arts Festival in October 2012.
