Starting with the soaring “Red Rain” and running through a variety of styles, from the funky, soul-inspired megahit “Sledgehammer” to gut-wrenching Kate Bush duet “Don’t Give Up” and the romance-in-motion of “In Your Eyes,” So is Peter Gabriel’s shining pop moment after years of heady, brilliant solo albums and as a part of prog-rock heroes Genesis. The remastered album expands the sound of songs like “In Your Eyes” without changing them too much, using original mastering engineer Ian Cooper to remaster from the original tapes and stay true to the 1986 version, adding bottom end, mid-range and compression. The So Immersion box set adds a DVD a concert in Athens in 1987, gloriously full and crisply recorded, with the loud horns on “Sledgehammer” being a highlight. Plus, a CD on the making of the album, a DVD documentary about the album, an LP of the album, a double A-side 12” with the previously unreleased tracks “Courage” and “Sagrada” plus an alternate version of “Don’t Give Up,” a digital download code for the album and bonus tracks, and a 60-page bound book with photographs.
