Amoeba Review
Prolific avant-electro savant Steven Ellison is back with an EP follow up to his highly-praised epic space odyssey Cosmogramma. Sacrificing none of his trademark hyperactive detail and jazz-funk groovism, Pattern + Grid World packs seven surprisingly peppy, accessible tunes into 20 minutes, making this a great little introduction to his sound for anyone daunted by the intimidating scope of his longer works. He blazes through chittery breakbeat stomp, sludgy low-end trip-hop, punky drum machine thwack and noodly synth hooks with invention and innovation to spare. Comparisons to his illustrious Warp labelmate Richard D. James are not unearned!
