Oui Oui Si Si Ja Ja Da Da (CD)
Madness
Amoeba Review
11/19/2012
Who would have thought that the original nutty boys would still be killing it in 2012? Oui Oui, the 10th Madness album, is a wild, vintage Motown-y funfest, so much fun in fact, that first wave skasters should have no business still sounding this cool. Mike Barson continues to be an '80s pop king at the top of his form, in a league with Squeeze and Elvis Costello, cranking out poignant pulp-fiction disco novelettes that are as catchy as anything he's ever done. With cute cover art by Peter Blake, who designed the original Sgt. Pepper's cover, featuring crossed-out titles that were rejected for this album (my favorite is "Dial M for Madness"). It's not often you can salute a current band for instantaneously transporting you back to the good old days, but this is one of those times. Madness c'est mort, vive le Madness!!!
