Celebrate their new release, out now on Kindred Spirits, Love (Part 1) with a special Valentine's Day performance!
"Build an Ark’s live performance integrates elements from African music, readings of mystic Sufi poetry, and a whole lot of love. Like much of the spiritual jazz that they take their cues from, Build an Ark discard conventional head/solo/head form to inspire a stream of incandescent energy and organic growth." - Shook Mag

Build An Ark is an internationally acclaimed, Los Angeles-based,
creative soul music ensemble, founded in 2001 with the intention to encourage peace and Love in the world. Inspired by the concept of Arkestry, set forth by Sun Ra, and the power he knew music has to alter the destiny of people's lives, Build An Ark focuses its ensemble work on writing and interpreting message-oriented compositions that deal with awakening into higher consciousness. Taking cues equally from Laurel Canyon luminaries Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, and Spiritual Jazz giants John and Alice Coltrane
and Pharoah Sanders, Build An Ark create a delicate balance between the topical and mystical, personal and cosmic. Uplifting audiences with spirited, cooperative expression and the use of diverse instrumentation are Build An Ark trademarks. Led by producer, composer Carlos Niño, music director, composer, multi-instrumentalist Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and vocalist, composer Dwight Trible, Build An Ark performs a variety of classic, original and improvised pieces in a style best described, simply, as Family.
With their latest release, LOVE Part 1 (KIndred Spirits,) Build An Ark journey into further diverse territory. Introducing Sitar, Organ and an expanded string and vocal section to the ensemble, the new sound is parts PEACE WITH EVERY STEP and DAWN, (the band's debut and sophomore releases,) while it clearly has an expanded range. It's more intimate, more festive, and truly epic! The message is LOVE, and the variety of expression, on that most essential of themes, is wondrous! Featuring compositions by new members Waberi Jordan and Jim Lang, and performances by special guests Kamau Daaood and Carmen Lundy, as well as beautiful new recordings by long time members Andres Renteria, Mark Maxwell, Nick Rosen and others, LOVE is a wonderful musical voyage. Be sure not to miss Build An Ark's instrumental interpretation of Van Morrison's classic "Sweet Thing" when they perform it live at Amoeba Hollywood, Sunday, February 14, at 5:00pm!
