In 2009, Spin Magazine voted Geographer one of “Three Undiscovered Bands You Need to Hear Now." With the successful release of the 7" Kites and the new Animal Shapes EP, the band is already beginning to make an indelible mark on the ears of music fans worldwide. Animal Shapes builds on the synth-driven aesthetic of Kites. Flirting with darker, more esoteric underpinnings, this recording merges Geographer's aptitude for crafting beautiful, haunting melodies with their textural sounds and polyrhythmic energy. It marks an evolution of their distinct sound. Buy the Animal Shapes EP at Amoeba and receive a free download card for new remixes by Limousines and Wallpaper, while supplies last!

HORACE-SCOPE is San Francisco's premier hard-bop sextet primarily inspired by the innovative musical works of the great Horace Silver. Wavves new album, King of the Beach (out August 3rd on Fat Possum Records), is adventurous and ambitious. It cuts deeper into the bleeding throat catharsis and ’60's sunshine soul that Wavves is known for. It also unexpectedly flips out with elements of primitive electronics and psychedelic studio experimentation. Also catch Waaves later that night at Rickshaw Stop. A veteran of many musical campaigns (Tom Waits, B-52’s, Black Francis, Jonathan Richman, Stan Ridgway), Ralph Carney is at it again and this time he's doubling as bandleader and horn-blower to his own line-up, Ralph Carney’s Serious Jass Project. For the band’s first release, Carney picked some of his favorite music from Duke Ellington’s small band recordings from the late 1930s, a couple of honkers and screamers by Big Jay McNeely and Lee Allen, and a rather cool rendering of Bix and Tram’s “Futuristic Rhythm.”
