Let's Take Off [Far Away] (12")
Dam-Funk
Amoeba Review
James Elliott 05/13/2010
Los Angeles-based beat producer Dam Funk is making some of the most exciting machine funk around. Merging classic West Coast bounce with soul, hip-hop, disco, analog funk and cutting edge electronics, the man is fast becoming the producer to watch. Let’s Take Off is easily his best work to date. Old school drum machines and killer programming drive this latest EP, anchoring squelchy synth bass, hazy ambience and warm leads that would make George Clinton smile. Reference points are clear--from Prince, Parliament and Bambaataa on up to Flying Lotus and Rustie. Dam Funk blends these elements into a highly singular sonic stew. Let’s Take Off comes with the highest recommendation. Essential!
