Exmortus prove they are masters of their dark kingdom on the ferocious, fascinating Legions of the Undead EP. The band kick things off with two original tracks, the titular “Legions of the Undead” and “Swallow Your Soul,” before thrashing their way into covers of classic film themes from Beetlejuice and Psycho, and a riff-heavy cover of Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain. Of course, the band does it all with death metal panache, roaring from original track to distinguished classic with equal amounts of power, terror, and precision. Frankly, it’s a massive feat for any band to pull off with such aplomb and Exmortus deserve loads of respect for this rip-roarer of an EP.
