Just Movement (CD)
Robert DeLong
Amoeba Review
01/28/2013
Up-and-coming EDMer Robert DeLong one-ups Skrillex by singing pensive lyrics over his manic creations, roping in indie and club kids in one fell swoop. After pondering his youth in the clanging opening of “Global Youth,” he asks “Did I leave my life to chance? Or did I make you fucking dance?” The answer becomes clear once the beat drops and you can visualize a crowd of arms shoot for the ceiling. Just Movement, released as a DIY album and now reconstructed in higher fidelity, seeks and achieves to unite its various discerning audiences, on songs like the irrepressible “Happy,” in which DeLong successfully even raps a bit. With both know-how and personality to spare, DeLong comes up with an electro-pop winner on Just Movement.
