Honeybee Table At The Butterfly Feast [Mustard Yellow Vinyl] (LP)
Teen Suicide
Amoeba Review
Teen Suicide’s Honeybee Table at the Butterfly Feast is a rewarding, rich, eclectic collection of songs that transcends classifications. Despite its gleeful genre-smashing, despite the several years band leader Sam Ray spent writing and recording the tracks, the album feels cohesive, like different emotional chapters within the same story. In this case, the underlying story is Ray’s struggle with illness and an eventual near death experience; that background comes across in certain lyrics and moments of intertwined hope and fear. There’s the rage of hardcore, the defiance of punk, the tenderness of acoustic balladry, the dreamy wistfulness of ambient. As heavy as that might sound on paper, in your headphones what you’ll get is a tale of beauty, connection, and wonder.
