Fully Qualified Survivor (CD)
Michael Chapman
Amoeba Review
Tiffany Anders 06/03/2010
Fully Qualified Survivor is progressive British folk songsmith Michael Chapman’s second release. The album features famed David Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson on his debut recorded guitar performance, which was so stellar it caught the attention of Bowie. The album marked a high point in Michael Chapman’s career, receiving high accolades from many critics, including BBC radio pioneer John Peel. The album is richly textured with shimmering acoustic guitars and spans many moods, from the soft “March Rain” to the fury “Soulful Lady.” Chapman demonstrates superior song writing skills with this album as he sings with rugged weariness. Stand out tracks include “Stranger in a Room,” which features exquisite leads by Ronson, and the beautiful self-reflective “Kodak Ghosts.”
