Colours [Sealed 1968 Issue] (LP)
Claudine Longet
Amoeba Review
Tiffany Anders 07/07/2010
French pop/easy-listening singer Claudine Longet truly blossomed on this 1968 release. Longet chooses to do renditions of many popular songs of the day, including two penned by Scottish songsmith Donovan: “Catch The Wind” and the title track “Colours,” which is by far the best track on the album (the production is pristine, and the song suits her delicate voice perfectly). The highlights—where Longet’s voice shine—include the soft lullaby “I Believed It All” and “Let It Be Me.” However, there are a few tracks that fall into the category of undeniable kitsch and could either be terrible or brilliant depending on your frame of mind: these include Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and Randy Newman’s “I Think It’s Gonna Rain Today.” Despite those, the album remains one her finest and should fit a groovy easy-listening mood like a glove.
