Amoeba Review

Jeff Hunt 05/28/2010

After the Gold Rush is Neil Young’s third solo album; it was recorded during 1969 and 1970, and released in the middle of 1970. It was a thoroughly groundbreaking record, and a commercial hit, in part due to the tremendous success of 1970’s Déjà Vu with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. That record was full of gentle motifs and lilting harmonies, in stark contrast to Young’s raw, loose and gritty solo album of the previous year, 1969’s epic rock ‘n’ roll classic Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. With After the Gold Rush, Young fuses the two styles, creating a signature sound in the process.
