Tegan and Sara are twin sisters who formed a band together when they were 15, have released six studio albums, tour extensively, and were twice nominated for Album of The Year by the Juno Awards.
Tegan and Sarah Quin were born in Calgary, Canada and began playing music together in high school. After winning a garage band competition, they recorded several demo tapes, The Yellow Tape, The Orange Tape, and The Red Tape, and then independently released Under Feet Like Ours in April 1999. They were signed to Neil Young's Vapor Records and released This Business of Art in 2000 and If It Was You in 2002. During those two years, Tegan and Sara toured with Neil Young, Rufus Wainwright, Ryan Adams, and Hot Hot Heat, and toured across Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, and the US.
With the release of So Jealous in 2004, Tegan and Sara gained wider attention. Their song "Walking With A Ghost" from So Jealous was covered by the White Stripes, the album was named by Rolling Stone as one of the Top 50 Records of 2004, and they were nominated for their first Juno Award for Album Of The Year. On their next album, The Con (Vapor, 2007), Tegan and Sara added drums, bass, and keyboards and Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) as a producer. They received their second Juno nomination for Album Of The Year for The Con. They released their sixth studio album, Sainthood (Vapor), in October 2009, along with a 3-volume set of photography and writing called On, In, At. In March 2010, Tegan and Sara released The Alligator LP, a digital collection of remixes of their song "Alligator" by artists such as Four Tet, Passion Pit, Ra Ra Riot, and VHS or Beta. In addition to their work with each other, Tegan and Sara have co-written songs and have been featured vocalists for Against Me!, Tiesto, Dragonette, and The Reason.
Tegan and Sara have followed a relentless touring schedule, gaining a reputation for their stories and banter in between songs, as well as for their performances themselves. They have toured with the Killers, Ben Folds, Cake, Death Cab For Cutie, and played at festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, SXSW, Lollapalooza, and Lilith Fair. They will be opening for Paramore during Summer 2010.
