Peter Frampton is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter who is known for his solo work and as a member of Humble Pie. Frampton started playing music as a child, teaching himself guitar and piano and then taking classical music lessons at eight years old. As a teenager, he was the lead guitarist and singer of The Herd which had a handful of pop hits on the British charts and lead to Frampton being named the "Face of 1968" in the music press. In 1969, he formed Humble Pie with Steve Marriott of the Small Faces, but he left the band in 1971 to launch a solo career.
Although Frampton's first few solo albums were not commercial successes, he built a steady following through constant touring and his pioneering use of the talk box guitar effect. His 1976 double live album Frampton Comes Alive! featured his first three hit singles "Baby, I Love Your Way," "Show Me The Way," and "Do You Feel Like We Do." The album stayed on the Billboard charts for 97 weeks, was the best-selling album of 1976, sold 16 million copies worldwide, and for years was the biggest selling live album of all time (a title which is now held by Garth Brooks).
Frampton has continued recording albums and touring, and has played with David Bowie, Ringo Starr, Bill Wyman, and members of Pearl Jam. His 2006 album Fingerprints (AM) won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental album. In 2010, he released his 14th studio album, Thank You Mr. Churchill (Universal).
