"Seven Stars" is one of the new digital only releases from Tompkins Square that has helped 2014 start off on a promising note. Recorded in 2006, this collection of songs is the first new music from Suni McGrath since his fantastic three albums of solo fingerpicking folk guitar work from the late 60s & early 70s. His distinctive 12-string guitar sound remains but the compositions and interpretations show off an updated brightness to his playing. This is best heard on "That Something" and the short closing track, "Falling Petals". A pal once described his playing as "a pellucid waterfall over a fret board". That's a fine description for this album (even if I don't know what pellucid means).
