Riverside Blues / Mabel's Dream [Take 1]
Louis Armstrong , King Oliver's Jazz Band

10/28/2012

Riverside Blues, a blues played with joyful melancholy on which Louis takes the last solo chorus break, is a fitting coda for the band's recording activity and would be the last recording by this band. Mabels Dream is a haunting, unusual tune that brings out the best of the Oliver band; complex ensemble playing full of passion throughout with King Oliver's muted cornet rising above Louis' brassier sound on the final out chorus.
