Louis took part in many studio sessions backing up blues singers during his stay in New York with Fletcher Henderson's band. With a few members of the Henderson band in October 1924 he was in the Paramount recording studio accompanying Ma Rainey, who belts out See See (Rider) Blues, which was destined to become a classic recorded by everyone from Leadbelly to Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. Louis comments on Ma's tale of woe with poignant riffs in this first recording of the song.
