Wishbone (CD)
Bobby Long
Amoeba Review
02/18/2013
Though Manchester-born, singer-songwriter Bobby Long conjures rough, sturdy Americana like few since John Fogerty. His breakthrough debut, A Winter's Tale, caught Stateside ears with its gritty set of hard-bitten folk rambles. On Wishbone, producer Ted Hutt (Gaslight Anthem, Lucero, Old Crow Medicine Show) rocks things up with a no-nonsense bar-band sound that sends Bobby into serious Black Keys/Crowes territory. Hear him lay down the cold hard facts over a stark riff and backbeat on "Devil Moon," and you'll be ready to follow him down a dirt road at midnight to a serious jam session at the crossroads. Lovers of vintage blues-rock and folk-rock will seriously dig this.
