Real Deadheads know that the studio albums are nice, but the magic only happens on the live bootlegs, the best of which have been curated for many years now by the venerable Dick's Picks series. Now Jerry Garcia's estate has launched a new website and is beginning to release its own archive of vintage live sets featuring Captain Trips' solo act. The first one is a honey from March 1, 1980, at Passaic N.J.'s Capitol Theatre, with two sets captured by local station WNEW on their 24-track mobile rig. Garcia and his country-jazz wizards give you a homey yet transdimensional version of "Deal" from the legendary Garcia album, a crack at Jimmie Rodgers' "That's All Right" and plenty of Jerry's own romantic, gnomic tunes. Hear the warmth, love and strangeness like it was meant to be heard!
